Adriana Bilbao

He carries an incomprehensible world inside, and he is not allowed to enter it. We suspect that this inner world is wonderful; for his dance, like a volcano, throws up the best, and he declares that it is a beautiful landscape with many lights inside.

With an inquisitive and nervous mind, he has always enriched his training with the work he has done and the actions he has taken throughout his career. 

He has a higher degree in Dance Pedagogy from the "María de Ávila" Higher Dance Conservatory in Madrid, a University Master in Performing Arts, and a degree in Audiovisual Communication. 

His dance is defined within the most traditional flamenco, but his concern and interest in innovation allow him to explore and test other codes, through an elegant and subtle movement, but also through an impetuous and lively one.

He founded his company in 2019 and has produced four works since then. The first one, "BURDINA/HIERRO", was released in 2019 and was made in collaboration with the musician Beñat Achiary. XXIV. It was nominated for Best Revelation Show and Best Revelation Author at the Max Awards.

It has had more than 50 performances, and has been scheduled in national and international stages and festivals, such as the Teatro Español in Madrid and the Flamenco Festival in Esch (Luxembourg).

In 2020 he will debut “ÉCLAT”, in the categories of Best Choreography, Best New Show and Best Costume Design XXV.

In 2022, his third work, “ZARRA”, premiered at the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao, with great media coverage. On stage with 9 dancers, XXVII. He is a finalist in the Max awards and has been nominated for Best Dance Show and Best Production Work; it was also nominated for Best Choreography, Best Costume Design and Best Female Dance Performer.


In June 2024, she premiered the show “AMORES / MAITASUNAK”.


It combines projects with tablaos and national and international company performances. In 2016, he is part of Carlos Saura’s “Flamenco Hoy” show. In 2019, “Tacones Manoli” directed by Felype de Lima and choreographed by Manuel Liñan is part of the immersive theater show in Madrid. He also works in tablaos, Casa Patas, Café de Chinitas and Torres Bermejas, among others.

Currently, Cía is part of Paco Peña’s show “Solera”, which premiered in London’s Sadler’s Wells Theater in April 2022.

 

One of the main goals of his works is to promote the approach of new audiences to the performing arts, based on collaborative creation and interdisciplinary participation. Different forms of awareness are sought to promote a social goal, keeping music and dance as the main means.

 

In addition to his work as a creator and dancer, he manages a creation factory together with the D8 Creation Factory, a dance-related center located in Bilbao that promotes synergies between artists, creates new audiences and creates a community around dance.
